Research on the coronavirus – not only people must be protected
While many scientists around the world are working flat out on vaccines and therapeutics to treat COVID-19, others research technologies with the same zeal in order to protect the active ingredients and bring them safely to patients and also to combat counterfeiting.
The companies Chromatic Technologies Inc. (CTI) and American Thermal Instruments (ATI) of Dayton, Ohio, have joined forces to provide free new printable temperature, tampering and authentication technology to protect new COVID 19 compounds.
When a new active ingredient has to be shipped around the world to be tested and developed in different locations, it must be safe and protected from risks such as sub-zero temperatures and exposure to heat, sunlight (UV damage). It must also be packaged in such a way that it is safe from manipulation and counterfeit attempts. According to the World Health Organization, seven of the 10 best-selling drugs in the world are damaged by sub-zero temperatures, including vaccines for influenza and pneumonia.
