The Austrian Association for Emergency Medicine (AAEM) was founded with the aim of promoting the creation of the special subject or specialization of intra-hospital emergency medicine in Austria, as has long been common practice throughout the EU. The AAEM represents the emergency departments and the intra-hospital emergency medicine practiced there in Austria. The AAEM was founded in 2008 and represents Austria in the UEMS (Union Européenne des Médecins Specialistes) – Section Emergency Medicine. The AAEM is also a National Society Member of the European Society of Emergency Medicine (EUSEM).
